Daniel Myron Lefever (August 27, 1835 – October 29, 1906) was an American gun maker, known as “Uncle Dan Lefever”. He is reputed to be the inventor of the ‘hammerless shotgun’, first introduced in 1878.
He was born in Hopewell, New York and worked as an apprentice gunmaker before opening his own gun shop and later he moved into manufacture and conversion of rifles and shotguns. He had various partners over the years and one of his businesses was the Lefever Arms Company. This was later subsumed into the Ithaca Gun Company.
